Seminars
1. On-the-job Training
Church placements, apprenticeships and
on-the-job-training are experiencing something of a revival. Successful church
placements, apprenticeships and on-the-job-training are harder than they look.
This seminar will outline some essential elements required for setting up and
running field education for churches and missions, drawing on theory and the
experience gained while designing the Faith Mission Ministry Apprenticeship.
2.
Is it possible to save lost sheep without losing saved sheep?
While most churches are committed in theory to
reaching lost people, in practice most of their resources are devoted to
maintenance rather than mission. Is it possible to change direction without
it leading to disappointment or even division? Come and explore the
different strategies that have been adopted for attempting to address this
vital issue.
3. Preaching that Connects
As he put it to me in discussions with him, he
believed that he should always connect with his listeners. ‘Only connect’,
in fact, might have been his slogan. (Gaius Davies commenting on the
preaching of Dr Martyn Lloyd-Jones in Genius, Grief & Grace, Christian Focus
Publications, 2001) "The great tragedy in the church today is that
evangelicals are biblical but not contemporary, while liberals are
contemporary but not biblical. We need faithfulness to the ancient word and
sensitivity to the modern world." (John Stott) How does the preacher make
the connection between the world of the Scriptures and the world of today?
How can the Christian be biblical yet also contemporary?
4. Confident Witness in a Postmodern Culture
5. Islam – the Challenge to the Church
6. From Small Talk to
Big Talk
How to make everyday conversations into
conversations of eternal significance; turning ordinary conversations into
extraordinary ones and developing a lifestyle which sees every day as an
opportunity to winsomely and engagingly share the gospel with those we meet.
7. Worship God
Towards the end of the Book of Revelation as the
marriage supper of the Lamb is about to be celebrated John is commanded by
an angel to write this: "Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage
supper of the Lamb. These are the true words of God." John then falls before
the angel to worship him but the angel immediately restrains him and says:
"You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who
hold to the testimony of Jesus.” Worship God: This seminar explores what
that means with particular reference to the Book of Revelation where we see
innumerable multitudes engaging in ceaseless worship before the throne of
God and of the Lamb.
